Journeys: Panama – Race and Citizenship across the Americas
This course examines assumptions about race and citizenship. Based on material from a variety of disciplines, we will focus on the political and social roles that debates over nationality have played in Panama and the U.S. and in the Americas, more broadly. Students who finish this class will understand the different meanings of citizenship in various American contexts and be able to integrate knowledge from several disciplines to research global phenomena. Requirements include classroom discussion, written assignments about the readings and other material, and a public presentation.
